Live oaks
Long horizontal limbs carrying real weight a long way from the trunk. Usually a case for reduction and rigging, not removal.

Water oaks
Fast growing and short lived for an oak. Interior decay is common well before the canopy looks like anything is wrong.

Pecans
Brittle wood that sheds limbs in wind, and they are often planted right over a drive, a roof or a shop.

Pines and sweetgums
Height without much taper. In saturated ground both are likelier to go over at the roots than to break up in the canopy.

Cypress and crepe myrtles
Cypress is slow and durable. Crepe myrtles are pruned rather than topped if they are to keep their shape and their structure.
